Join this unique summer masterclass based in inspiring Smethcote Church located in beautiful Shropshire Hills, for the opportunity to learn from renowned experienced performers Mark Berman (USA) & Gabriela Demeterova (CZ/GB). Gabriela Demeterova’s The Smethcote Summer MasterClass long - term project taking place at St. Michael and All Angels Smethcote Church in Shropshire is a continuation of Gabriela’s education and community focused activities she has previously devoted as part of her established career in the Czech Republic. Her International Music Festival & MasterClasses “Baroque Pearls of Gabriela Demeterova” was running under the patronage of The Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the former President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Havel and his wife Dagmar Havel. Gabriela is bringing her experience to Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, were she is resident. She is proud to call this place her home. Through The Smethcote Summer Masterclass she wants to contribute to the fusion of cultures, music and communities bringing talented international students, tutors, her colleagues, local community, rural businesses and audiences together as well as contributing to the restoration of the church building.
The church itself has the magical properties due to its history and position. Located at Long Mynd, one of the Shropshire Hills, with absolutely stunning views. Bringing peace and quiet to its visitors minds.
At the time of the Domesday survey of 1086, Smethcote formed part of the domain of Roger de Montgomery, Earl of Shrewsbury. The Smethcote Church was built together with the castle.

Music Composition & Jazz Improvisation MasterClass will explore the phenomenon of creativity and music invention that have come from nature and life. The simplicity of life is profound and we can really express that through music. With playing and singing, writing and putting into practice improvisation (all styles including jazz, rock, singer songwriter, classical, folk, reggae, Broadway etc.). We will explore ourselves through different styles of music and how we all can write music, and improvise and express ourselves. We can really allow ourselves that luxury.
Remember - bring any instruments you might play at whatever level you play! We are going to make music!

Mark Berman - Composition, Jazz Improvisation
Based in New York City, the renowned pianist, composer and arranger. He has written music for, and played and recorded with, the proverbial who's who of jazz, pop and rock: Aretha Franklin, Carole King, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Phoebe Snow, Leslie Gore, Gladys Knight, Wycliff Gordon, Hugh Jackman, Burt Bacharach, Chita Rivera, Richie Havens, and many others. He has also performed at Carnegie Hall, Radio City, the Blue Note, Birdland, the Rainbow Room, and Merkin Hall among other notable New York venues as well as internationally.
He can currently be heard (and seen) on the TV show “The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel”.

Independent projects like The Smethcote Summer MasterClass 2020 couldn’t exist without the support of the community and benefactors. Therefore we will be running the official crowdfunding campaign on CROWDFUNDER, the UK No.1 verified platform https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/the-smethcote-summer-masterclass-2020 shared also via my official social media profiles. The crowdfunding campaign will be running for 4 weeks.
The crowdfunding will allow us to finance absolutely necessary costs that are needed to make The Smethcote Summer MasterClass 2020 happen, to give the community and the students the opportunity to take part in this unique project. The major costs include airplane tickets, hotel costs for our guest tutor Mark Berman flying to us from New York City, production of the MasterClass and the Gala Concert, catering for the students and tutors during the MasterClass, PR campaign and PR materials such as flyers, concert tickets and online promotion.
I do thank everybody, my dear friends, colleagues, supporters, Smethcote Parochial Church Council, all of you who are helping me to lift this project off the ground. Your interest and support is much appreciated.
